From our Family to Yours: The CinemaTech Story

At CinemaTech, everything we create begins with a deep understanding of what home means. What started as a family-led collaboration in 1998 has evolved into a legacy of crafting theater spaces that reflect the people who live in them. Grounded in craftsmanship, trust, and connection, our work transforms everyday rooms into unforgettable experiences—because a home theater should be as meaningful as the memories made inside it.

Home is where stories arecreated

CinemaTech began in 1998 as a family-run venture grounded in one simple belief: a theater should be as welcoming, comfortable, and crafted as the home around it. That belief took root when founder Michael Murphy helped design and source a high-quality theater recliner for his original business partner—the person who helped him start it all. That collaboration led to the first iteration of what would become the German-engineered Valentino seat, marking the beginning of CinemaTech’s commitment to craftsmanship, performance, and connection.

The Valentino wasn’t just a great chair—it was a realization. Michael saw more than a seat; he saw an opportunity to create a space where friends and family could come together for shared experiences like no other. That vision soon evolved into a full-service offering, still rooted in the same core values. Michael introduced the Fly-and-Buy Program, inviting clients to visit our showrooms and experience our products firsthand. He also developed the Design Services Program, created to guide homeowners through every detail of theater planning—from layout to finishes to performance optimization. Michael also led the acquisition of our exclusive Acoustic Room System (ARS), securing the rights to offer it as a CinemaTech-exclusive solution. To support more complex projects, he brought in expert acoustical engineers—expanding our ability to deliver fully bespoke environments where sound and design work in harmony.

Today, that vision lives on under the leadership of Michael’s daughter, Alexandria Baker. Since stepping into the role, Alexandria has ushered in a new chapter for CinemaTech—opening a state-of-the-art showroom in Florida, introducing technical innovations like our three-motor mechanism and motorized chaise recliners, and raising the standard of quality across every detail of the business. Still family-owned and rooted in trust, CinemaTech has grown into a team of designers, engineers, and artisans dedicated to creating rooms that feel as personal as they are precise.

Cinematech Founded

CinemaTech was started by an entrepreneur in Dallas who sought to create high-quality, comfortable theater seating that matched the aesthetic of his home. The first product, CinemaTech Seating, was born from the desire to offer premium seating unmatched in comfort, quality, and design.

The Valentinos Inception

CinemaTech’s journey started with the Valentino, our first seating model, sketched by hand and built with precision. This design still serves as a symbol of our commitment to craftsmanship, luxury, and innovation. Today, we continue to honor that legacy by creating the most luxurious, custom-made seating for home theaters worldwide.

2000s

Fly and Buy Program

CinemaTech introduced the Fly and Buy program to offer clients from locations without nearby showrooms a chance to experience our work firsthand. We cover the cost for clients to fly into Dallas, where they can immerse themselves in the CinemaTech Experience, ensuring that their vision truly becomes our mission.

The Design Service Program

Driven by our passion for home theaters, CinemaTech created the Design Service Program (DSP) to address the unique questions and common concerns our clients have when designing their ideal space. We realized that to deliver a truly exceptional experience, every detail surrounding our seating needed to align perfectly with each client’s vision while achieving technical excellence. Our DSP offers fully personalized theater designs, tailored to your preferences and needs, ensuring a seamless journey from consultation to installation.

2005

Introduction of the Acoustic Room System

CinemaTech acquired the patented Acoustic Room System (ARS), a revolutionary fabric retainer system that allows us to customize acoustic treatments directly on-site. While we had been enhancing acoustics for years, the ARS brought a new level of precision to our work, enabling us to tailor sound engineering to each unique space and achieve unparalleled audio quality in every theater we design.

CinemaTech’s motorized chaise and advanced 3-motor mechanism redefine luxury seating for home theaters. Our motorized chaise offers a luxurious reclining experience on our sofa options, allowing clients to fully extend and relax with the touch of a button. The 3-motor mechanism takes customization to the next level, independently controlling the headrest, backrest, and footrest for an unparalleled level of comfort and support. With these innovative features, CinemaTech seating combines effortless operation with precision-engineered comfort, delivering a fully immersive experience tailored to each user’s preference.
